Hudsonville wrestlers claim first place at OK Red Conference tournament

Undefeated during the conference dual-meet season, the Hudsonville wrestling team made it a clean sweep of league honors as it won the OK Red Conference tournament at West Ottawa.

Hudsonville totaled 215.5 points to win the tournament while Rockford placed second

with 156 points. Grandville finished third with 146.5 points followed by Grand Haven (fourth, 110), Caledonia (fifth, 99), East Kentwood (sixth, 64) and West Ottawa (seventh, 61).   

A total of 12 Hudsonville wrestlers placed at the tournament including five Eagles that won conference titles.

Jack Samuels led the way for the Eagles as he ran his record to 36-1 for the season enroute to winning the 135-pound title. Kameron Kempker improved to 35-3 for the season as he won the title at 119 pounds while Kyle Scott improved to 35-5 and won the 215-pound title. Marcus Kachur claimed the title at 189 pounds and upped his record to 31-8 while Evan Mol won the 160-pound title and improved to 23-15.

Also placing for the Eagles were Dante Kahn (fourth, 103 pounds), Evan Higgs (second, 125), Cameron Ensign (second, 140), James Samuels (second, 145), Chase Mol (fourth, 152), Bryce Herrema (second, 171) and Seth Hoonhorst (second, 285).

Rockford was led by a pair of conference champions. Jack Richardson improved to 35-2 for the year as he won the 145-pound title while Noah Anderson improved to 24-2 as he won the 140-pound title.

The Rams also had four finalists in Ashton Halland (112), Trenton Wachter (119), Connor White (135) and Cole Gleason (160). Also placing for Rockford were Jack Tadych (fourth, 125), Evan Kaser (fourth, 130), Brenden Wymer (third, 189) and Taylor Green (third, 215).

A trio of Grandville wrestlers came away with individual titles. Bulldog sophomore Anthonie Taylor improved to 21-0 for the season as he won the 130-pound title. Josh Kenny won the 152-pound title and Jake Paganelli captured the 171-pound crown.

A total of six Bulldogs placed third including Dash Herrema (103), Jesse Veldhouse (119), Bobby MeHaffey (135), Jager Grifhorst (140), Michael Carrasco (145) and Aiden Herrema (160).

Grand Haven crowned a pair of champions. Collin Monsma improved to 22-5 for the season as he won the 285-pound title while Cody Miller upped his record to 28-4 as he won the 125-pound title.

Riley Rhone (103) and Daniel Guillen (130) both placed second for the Bucs with Bronson Jewell (171) taking third and Chance Heineman (215) and Zach Boersen (119) placing fourth.

Caledonia was paced by freshman Owen Norman who won the 103-pound title and improved to 31-2 for the season. Bryce Briggs also reached the finals and took second at 189. Jonah Siekman (130) and Alex Overla (285) placed third for the Fighting Scots while Alex Fenton (112), Tim Spence (135), Seth Morse (140) and Jason Alcala (171) placed fourth.

East Kentwood was led by Rayvon Perkins. Perkins won the 112-pound title and improved to 25-4 on the year. Kionte Blakely placed second at 152 pounds as he improved to 28-2 for the season. Marcus Hurst took third at 125 pounds and Kalil Adams placed fourth at 160 pounds.

A total of six West Ottawa wrestlers placed. Josh Munoz led the way as he took second at 215 pounds. David Cruz (112) and Julian Jimenez (152) both placed third while Christian Sorrelle (189), Julio DelReal (285) and Samuel Vasche (145) placed fourth.
